As every year, our Carouge retail community will open the shops on the four Sundays before Christmas, starting tomorrow. The general opening hours are 10-5 but that can vary by shop. Tricolaine will be open from 1-5 on the first two and 11-5 on the last two Sundays.
You may have read in the Tribune de Geneve that the city of Geneva did not grant any opening rights to the Geneva retailers as it is against the Sunday labor law. In Carouge the authorities granted us this right with restrictions, which is that shop owners only can work, no employees may work on Sundays. So you may find the bigger retailers closed too but most of the small shops will be open. The regulations say that all shops must be closed one day a week and this can be any day and during this Christmas period this obligation is not in effect. So shops can open Sundays in December without having to close another day of the week. All very complicated but the result is that the small shops are for once privileged, which I find quite nice.
Anyway, have a stroll through Christmas-decorated Carouge on Sunday and drop by with your knitting for a hot cup of tea.
On Dec. 14, 15 and 16 there will be the traditional Christmas market at the Rue St. Joseph, open until 20h on the Friday and Saturday.
The new ice skating ring is opening today at the Place de Sardaigne. It's free.

Is that motivation enough to visit our lovely old town of Carouge?
