My favorite photographer is Frank Meadow Sutcliffe. These and many more photos were taken in and around the fishing village of Whitby between 1875 and 1910. Whitby is on the North Yorkshire coast, a beautiful place which I visited with my friend George a long time ago. There is a gallery in Whitby which sells Sutcliffe prints, I have a few. Here are some of the Fishermen wearing the typical sweaters (and stockings, I believe, in the first photo) and women and girls knitting. A lot more of these pictures can be seen (and bought) at the gallery's website. Thought you might enjoy them.

Il y a beaucoup des resemblances avec la Galice(nord de l'Espagne) à la même époque. Les femmes tricotaient au bord de la mer en attendant le retour de pêcheurs. Merci de nous faire connaître ce photographe. Canela Donynath
